Moving from Observing the Sabbath to Worshiping the Lord
By Meshach Baptiste

This study documents what I have learned about the Sabbath by reading and studying the Holy Bible. The content is based on my questions about the Sabbath, and questions, or objections other people have brought up during discussions about the Sabbath. The main questions are preceded by the word “QUESTION” in all uppercase letters. The answers are not preceded by the word “answer,” but instead are simply presented in the obvious place, after the text of the questions. In some cases, there are multiple or compound answers, broken up into multiple blocks of text. This study looks at the Sabbath in the past, present, and future. Chapter 1 – The Seventh Day of the Week — To whom was the Sabbath command given? Chapter 2 – The Covenants — Within which covenant was the Sabbath command given? Chapter 3 – Jesus and the Sabbath — Did Jesus teach the church to observe Sabbath? Chapter 4 – Gentiles and the Sabbath — Does the Sabbath command apply to Gentiles? Chapter 5 – The First Day of the Week — Why do Christians meet regularly on the first day of the week? Chapter 6 – Sabbath in the Future — What did the prophets say about Sabbath in the future? Chapter 7 – A Call to Action — How should we respond to what we learn about the Sabbath BIBLIOGRAPHY AND ADDITIONAL READING APPENDIX A – Usage of shabbathon, shabbath, and shabath in the Holy Bible APPENDIX B – Some Sabbath Rules Found in the Bible APPENDIX C – Appointed Times, Holy Convocations, Appointed Feasts APPENDIX D – Usage of the word “Gentile” in the New Testament APPENDIX E – Significant New Testament Events on the First Day of the Week APPENDIX F – The Lord’s Day Unless otherwise noted, Scripture quotations are taken from the NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE® – Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation.
